Information Security is generally achieved via a mix of technical, organizational and legal measures. This book is intended as a first field-survey. These include: the emergence of cryptology as a discipline during the Renaissance, the Black Chambers in Eighteenth century Europe, the breaking of German military codes during World War II, the histories of the NSA and it is Soviet counterparts and contemporary cryptology.

In the very last 3 decades the main focus has shifted from military to civilian use, with Information Security assuming a pivotal role in protecting information infra structure where businesses and customers, or governments and citizens depend for his or her day to day dealings. The Handbook contains separate sections about identity-management, and the good reputation for intellectual ownership, which can be in the forefront of Information Security today.

Karl de Leeuw may be engaged as being a lecturer in Information Security at the University of Amsterdam so when an editor of sources about the background philosophy of mathematics at the University of Utrecht. He's written his Ph. D about the history of cryptology inside the Netherlands and it has published extensively about this subject in scholarly journals inside U.S. as well as the U.K. His current research interests are the philosophy and history of science & technology, a brief history of computer science, and intelligence history; Jan Bergstra can be a full professor in Computer Science in the University of Amsterdam. He is a logician by training and has a wide scope of interests.
Jan Bergstra can be a professor of computer science at the University of Amsterdam, a component time professor of applied logic at Utrecht University (both NL) anf the husband is really a honorary visiting professor while using University of Swansea (UK). His main resarch interest has been computability theory, process algebra and abstract data types, but he worked in many other areas of computer science as well, including particularly decidability problems that arise inside theory of computer virusses. He is often a member in the Academia Europaea. He is currently managing editor of 'Science of Computer Programming' and the 'Journal of Logic and Algebraic Programming'.
